Facebook Breaks Another Record: Volume

Facebook traded 460 million shares by 3:07pm EDT, the most ever for a US stock the day of its IPO.

The prior record-holder was GM, which saw 458 million shares trade the day it went public in 2010, after coming out of bankruptcy.

Much of the FB trading — 100M shares’ worth, in fact — occurred in the first few minutes after the stock opened.

By comparison Friday, the second most traded stock on the Nasdaq was an ETF the PowerShares QQQ Trust which had nearly 59 million shares traded. Oracle was third at 53 million shares.
